The Cygnus region of the Milky Way- Named for the constellation Cygnus (the swan) which runs right through the middle of this photograph.
It is visible from the UK for most of the year, this less well-known part of the Milky Way is packed with Nebulae: the red regions to the left of centre are emission nebulae where heated hydrogen gas emits a deep red colour.
From left to right the 'North America nebula', 'pelican nebula' and 'Sadr region' can be seen. Towards the top of this photograph the second brightest star in the northern hemisphere can be seen, Vega.

How this photo was taken

The location this photo was taken from is displayed in this map.
This was a stacked photograph of over 20 minutes exposure using a 35mm lens and tripod on the 19th of May 2020. I hiked up the hill onto salisbury plain from where I was staying from about 1:30am to 3am to watch the Milky Way rise.
